CAN YOU ENDANGER YOURSELF BY ATTEMPTING TO HAZE A COYOTE?

August 24, 2020

First of all, we believe hazing will not be effective on habituated coyotes commonly found in urban environments. However, if you are inclined to try hazing a coyote here is something elseyou might consider. Coyotes are carriers of certain diseases (Heartworm, Mange, Canine Distemper and Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) and host to many types of Parasites. Most of these diseases require a blood test to determine if the animal is infected. Most of these diseases show no outward signs indicating a sick animal other than Mange. If you attempt to haze the animal it may not be able to flee your attempts at hazing because the illness prevents him from doing so. Even though this animal lives in an urban area it is still a wild animal that will react if it feels threatened or cornered. Think before you act. Though their data is somewhat limited the Cook County Coyote Study found that 41% of the coyotes they tested, test positive for heartworm. Do not let children attempt to haze an animal. Think before you act.
